This new CrossRoads program is designed to help girls explore the creative gifts that God has given them. Participants will choose 2 “tracks” to focus on for the mini-week. Specific activities for each track will be developed as counselor and other adult leaders are secured. The following is a list of the tracks offered and possible activities:
Music —Choral and/or instrumental music could emphasized. Campers might learn the words and sign language to a worship song, play in a mini-band, or write their own song about the summer camp theme.
Drama —Campers could learn a skit to use in worship, write their own short drama piece about one of the Bible characters they are introduced to during Bible Study, or play “improv” games.
Dance —This track may incorporate sign language, interpretative movement, and traditional dance forms. Campers will learn at least one dance piece to share at the end of the mini-week.
Visual Arts —Campers may experiment with a wide variety of art forms such as painting, drawing, scrapbooking, jewelry making, crafts, etc. Finished pieces may be displayed as part of a “gallery” at the end of the mini-week.
Media —Digital photography, slide show presentations, radio, and newspaper may be used as campers explore the creative side of media.
No previous experience is necessary! Activities in each track will help campers experiment with the art form and guide them toward developing a final presentation or creation to share on the last day of camp. In addition to their tracks, campers will participate in traditional camp activities such as swimming, outdoor recreation, Bible Study, meeting missionaries, and worship. Also, look forward to a special treat this week only…camp parade and fireworks!
Space in each track is limited, so register early! Campers who wish to room together as “buddies” do not have to choose the same tracks to be placed in the same cabin during this mini-week. Though it is not necessary, campers are welcome to bring supplies or objects that relate to the tracks they have chosen (ex. an instrument for the music track, painting or drawing supplies for the visual arts track, or a digital camera for the media track) as there may be an opportunity to use them during track time.
