Campers learn and practice basic climbing and rappelling skills on both indoor and outdoor courses. Confidence building and teamwork will be emphasized.
At the start of the week, campers learn about the mountaineering equipment they will be using, appropriate commands, and trusting the person on belay. They will have opportunities to practice on indoor climbing walls and low-incline hills around the camp property. Weather permitting, campers will spend Thursday and Friday at larger, more challenging outdoor rock faces.
Campers who choose mountaineering should be prepared for at least two significant hikes (approximately 1.5 miles each) during the week. Tennis shoes are required. It is recommended that girls participating in this track wear shorts that are at least finger tip length. All other equipment is provided. No previous experience in climbing or rappelling is necessary for campers.
This track is facilitated by CrossRoads staff members that have received training and certification in climbing and rappelling instruction.
